Travel from Munich Airport to Fraueninsel

  1. Walk from Arrival Gate to Central Area (Zentralbereich) of the airport
  2. Locate DB-Counter (German rail way)
  3. Buy a 2nd class ticket one way to PRIEN
  4. Go down the escalator to underground (=S-Bahn) (direction to Munich)
  5. Trains for Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) leave every 20 minutes. Since you have to change the train at OSTBAHNHOF (East train station) in order to get to Prien at Lake Chiemsee only the trains listed below provide the connection required at OSTBAHNHOF. This station will be reached after a train ride of about 32 minutes. This means you do NOT travel to Munich central station but leave the train before at OSTBAHNHOF (East Train station) and change tracks for the train to Prien (same ticket). This is a shortcut since your destination is East of Munich.

After arrival in Prien you can take:

either

the green historical (1887) Chiemsee train leaving only at

    9.40 10.40 11.40 13.00 13.45 15.00 15.50 16.40 17.35 18.35

    which takes you in 8 minutes for DM 3.50 to the boat dock

    or

    a cab (which is beige) which takes you in 10 minutes for about DM 11 to the boat dock.

Chiemsee Ship service and Chiemsee Railway (pdf-file)

 

    the boat ride takes 30 minutes, the price is DM 8.00

2.  From the boat dock at Fraueninsel it takes about 6 minutes to walk to the abbey.
     There will be signs to direct you to the entrance


This travel information is for the individual arrival of participants.

We will have an arrival committee at the airport and probably also at Prien train station and a mobile phone number in case somebody gets lost.

NOTE: IF we know the exact arrival times of participants at the airport we may collect people in a bus and go directly by bus to Lake Chiemsee. It just depends whether enough people arrive at similar times.
